Competition Terms

Gay.ge initiative group and Inclusive Foundation are pleased to announce competition on creation of postcards aiming at promoting equality of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons in Georgia. Gay.ge, Inclusive Foundation and Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group implement project: ”Prevention and empowerment in the NIS: responding to HIV/AIDS amongst sexual minorities 2006-2010” (PRECIS) in Georgia. On international level, project is managed by COC Netherlands (the Dutch national LGBT association), Gender Doc M (Moldovan national LGBT organization) and ILGA Europe (European region of International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Organization) and is financed by the Dutch government.

About Gay.ge:
Gay.ge is the Georgian national LGBT community gateway website that functions since 2002 and carries the mission of awareness raising of the LGBT community and the general public and empowerment and integration of the community in Georgian society. Website offers news, articles and discussions to its members. About Inclusive Foundation: Inclusive Foundation is the national LGBT organization working on protection of human right of LGBT persons and fostering their integration in Georgia’s society. Inclusive Foundation is supporting the initiatives to promote equality for LGBT persons in Georgia.

About Competition:
The postcard competition will have three main topic categories:
1. Equality
2. Diversity
3. Homophobia

Possible themes within categories can be stigmatization, discrimination, violence, hate speech/hate crime, human rights, rights of women, rights of child, transgender issues, HIV/AIDS prevention issues, sexual and reproductive rights, environmental issues, disability, age and other issues in relation to LGBT issues.

Postcards can be created through photo, graphic or as mix of both media. Besides graphic component it is vital to include concepts, messages, slogans in each topic category. Submissions can be made on multiple categories but individual work needs to address each topic separately. Authors are encouraged to submit works on each topic.

Format:
Works are intended to be used for printing postcards, but might be used in a bigger size prints as well. Each submission shall be made electronically in 2 formats: JPEG (small file for web preview maximum size 250 KB) and high resolution PDF print version of it (Maximum size 5 MB). Each work shall be submitted in both formats. Minimum size of the image shall be A5 and Maximum A3 (both portrait or landscape orientation is welcome) with a resolution of 300 DPI and in CMYK colour format. Editable original source file has to be available upon request.

Eligibility:
Call is open to all private persons, organizations and companies in Georgia and does not necessarily require their previous involvement with LGBT issues.

Awards:
Submissions will be screened and evaluated by a professional jury comprised of photographers, graphic designers, representatives of gay.ge, Inclusive Foundation, Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group and other independent experts.
Jury will award 2 prizes in each topic category:
First Prize equivalent to EUR 300 (3 prizes in each topic categories);
Second Prize equivalent to EUR 150 (3 prizes in each topic categories);
In addition to prizes awarded by a professional jury, works will be placed on gay.ge website for a period of one week and will be voted by users and visitors of the website. Winners in the three categories will be awarded equivalent of EUR 50 each. Winning through the jury selection and internet voting can overlap. In this case authors will be awarded with both prizes.

NOTE: All awards are subject to 12% income tax deductable by Inclusive Foundation.

Copyright:
Gay.ge, Inclusive Foundation and Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group will acquire copy right on the submitted material from the moment it is submitted and regardless of the results of competition will have right to use complete work or a part of it in its future publication without inquiring permission by the author but will acknowledge the author in writing. Authors may use their works for other purposes with the prior written permission issues by Gay.ge, Inclusive Foundation and Women’s Initiatives Supporting Group. This condition is put not to prevent authors from further use of their work, but in order to keep track on dissemination with the purpose of assesing longer term effects of the competition. During Reproducing works by external persons and publications it is required to quote the information about the competition and its purpose as given in this call.

Distribution:
Awarded or non-awarded works will be used for printing and through web. Winning the competition does not commit organizers of the competition to publicising the works, nor is the decision to use works in print and web related to the results of competition (meaning that some works that are winners might be not printed or used otherwise, or works that did not win might be selected for publicising).

Timeframe:
November 9, 2009 – competition is announced;
November 24, 2009 18:00 - competition is closed (no late submissions will be reviewed);
November 25-December 1, 2009 – submitted works are uploaded on gay.ge website for voting.
December 1, 2009 – Announcement of competition results and internet voting results (placing announcement on internet might take couple of days more).
Awards will be issued within before December 11, 2009.

To submit:
Works need to be submitted electronically to following E-mail address: pc2009@gay.ge before November 24 18:00 Tbilisi time. We welcome narrative explanation of the concepts behind the works (not more than 200 words) along with images. Questions and inquiries regarding competition will be received only through the same E-mail address. Organizers will not receive inquiries through telephone or in person.
